This is the interesting story of Kate Bornstein. Born a boy, she had the urges to want to be a girl from a very young out. This feeling, lead to her to beguin to cut herself, to release the feelings, to heal the numbness, to feel something, anything for just a second. She also learnt to starve herself. She turned to drugs when the slashing and starving stopped working. She wanted answers and turned to religion serching for one that could explain the feelings and help her to understand to urges to become a woman. Finally finding scientology who states that we are not male or female but a genderless spiritual being. This was seen as a good start, but they wanted him to remale a male rather then follow his dreams to become a woman. Because of the inabitity to speak about feelings he turned to drawing his feelings and desires. This lead him to a greater understanding of himself/herself. Kate lives as neither man or woman, after leaving scientology she views herself as spiritually intuned by her artwork.
