live through this- rewriting the script (13)

Here is the story of writer director and playwrite Carolyn Gage. It speaks of her history, her childhood, watching her father beat her mother and the memories of him sexually abusing his own daughter. It tells of her making complex storys from her dolls, often reflecting her own life and storys, but not those of a normal little girl of tea parties and catwalks. It talks about a complicated 'ordinary life' to which she was on a self destruction mode, she lost her job, her marriage and left her church. She came out as a lesbian and her hatred of men grew. She turned to writing plays, based around her own life experiences, often looking into homophobia, and being persicuted for something. she claimes this is what stopped her from self harm and trying to kill herself in her darkest hour, where she had lost everything. She was inspired by activist Ida wells-barnett talking bout selling your self only to the dearest of offers.
